Varsha Kayi

Managing Partner

Varsha Kayi focuses her practice on humanitarian, family, and employment-based immigration matters before the U.S. immigration courts, the Board of Immigration Appeals, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), and U.S. Consulates abroad. Ms. Kayi has experience representing individuals detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), as well as extensive experience in asylum law.

Prior to founding Alight Legal PLLC, Ms. Kayi worked as an associate attorney at a private immigration firm in the Washington, D.C. metro area. She also worked as a legal intern with the Department of Justice, Executive Office of Immigration Review in Baltimore, Maryland, under five immigration judges. Further, Ms. Kayi worked with the Immigration Legal Services team at Catholic Charities, where she focused on assisting indigent clients with family-based immigration matters.

Ms. Kayi has a Juris Doctor from the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law. At the University of Maryland, she represented clients in cases before the Constitutional Court in Namibia through the school’s International Human Rights Law Clinic. Before attending law school, Ms. Kayi served as a volunteer English teacher at the Parikrma Humanity Foundation in India, working to educate and empower marginalized children.

Ms. Kayi serves as pro bono attorney with the Torture Abolition and Survivors Support Coalition, where she has provided more than 1,000 hours of legal services for torture survivors seeking asylum. Ms. Kayi graduated magna cum laude from The George Washington University with a Bachelor of Arts in political science.
